Frances Kamm's new essay in The Philosophers' Magazine

June 29 2021

CPLB Advisory Board member Frances Kamm has published a new essay in The Philosophers' Magazine. Entitled Harms, Wrongs and Meaning in a Pandemic, the piece raises questions about the appropriateness of a variety of comparisons used to illustrate the magnitude of the 500,000 US deaths due to COVID, such as “all the U.S lives lost on the battlefield in World Wars I and II and the Vietnam War” or “the disappearance of the entire population of Sacramento, California”. In doing so, the piece elucidates the distinction between the harms and the wrong caused by the pandemic.
