Charletta Ayers
Associate Professor of the Department of Obstetrics Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences

Dr. Charletta Ayers is associate professor of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Rutgers University at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS), New Brunswick, N.J. She has been a member of the faculty since 1993. She originally did her undergraduate work at the University of Maryland and graduate training at Temple University Medical School. She completed her Ob/Gyn residency at Temple University and obtained a Master's Public Health degree from UMDNJ-Rutgers University.

Dr. Ayers is presently Vice Chair of Clinical Services for the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Rutgers-RWJMS, OB/GYN General Division Director and Program Director for the Urban and Global Scholars Program. As a member of the Women’s Health Research Institute she has expanded her research interest in the areas of global health and contraception. In 2007, she was appointed an Ambassador for the National Health Corps to promote the recruitment of minorities into healthcare & research. Charletta is very involved in her community internationally, nationally and locally. In 2001, she and her husband, James Aikins, Jr., were founding members of the non-profit organization “International Healthcare Volunteers.” This organization has been able to provide healthcare to over 13,000 underserved women and their families in Africa and the Caribbean.
